>> BOBBY : Hi.

I'm Bobby Madley, Premier League Referee.

As a referee,

it's my job to make sure the match is played fairly

and that everybody plays by the rules.

[BACKGROUND MUSIC RESUMES]

Timekeeping is another important part of my job.

A football game is 90 minutes long.

That's 2 halves of 45 minutes each.

Sometimes we have to add extra time if somebody gets injured

and we have to pause the match for a few minutes.

Without keeping tracking of time,

I wouldn't know when to blow the halftime whistle

or how much extra time to add at the end of the match.

I also need to keep a record

of how many minutes into the match each goal is scored

and when substitutes come on and off the pitch.

We can use time for fun facts too.

Did you know that Sadio Mané scored the fastest hat-trick

in Premier League history?

He scored 3 goals in 2 minutes and 56 seconds

against Aston Villa when he played for Southampton.

So understanding time is a really important part of the game.

See how well you get on with working out some time problems.
