[INTRO MUSIC]

CHILDREN: Premier League Primary Stars!

>> CHILD 1: This is called Roll and Ride.

>> CHILD 2: We've been developing our skills.

>> CHILD 3: Now I can stop the ball.

>> COACH: This enjoyable game provides challenge and competition using ball control, tracking of a ball, coordination of the body at the right speed and at the right time. Pupils will learn to demonstrate control of a piece of equipment whilst static, track a ball, follow and stop it with effective timing and judgement. You will need one ball per pupil and cones. The activity we're gonna play is called Roll and Ride. Can you just practise for me really quickly moving the ball around your head, around your waist, through your legs without dropping it? And stop there. Try and roll it, and then run as fast as you can, and see if you can stop it before it hits the cone or before it goes this side. Okay? I don't want to stop the ball here like this. What say? Is that too easy?

>> CHILDREN ALL TOGETHER: Yes.

>> COACH: When you trap the ball and control it, try and use your feet. Roll and ride. Put your foot on it! Stop there, guys. You're stopping with your hands.

[BACKGROUND MUSIC]

>> COACH: Everyone move the ball around your waist. Roll and ride.

[CHILDREN CHEER]

>> COACH: Excellent. Really impressive, you. Back you go, change with your partner. Keep the ball moving. This time, let's change our body part.
Try your elbows, okay? Brilliant. Roll and ride. Off you go.

[MUSIC RESUMES]

>> COACH: If I wanted to hit the cone, would I roll it really, really fast?

>> CHILD 4: Just slowly so you can catch it.

>> CHILD 5 + COACH: - Yeah. - Brilliant.

>> COACH: So what would happen if I did think I was gonna roll it really fast? What do you think would happen if the ball went too fast?

>> CHILD 5: Your partner wouldn't be able to get there and it would go further than the cone.

>> COACH: There was no waiting around at all, the children had a go at the roll and ride, then it was quickly given to their partner. It was really clear for the children to understand distances, and speed of the ball, and why we roll the ball slowly if you want to catch it up.

>> CHILD 6: It was really like a fun game. And I think that was really fantastic. Everyone will like really like that.

>> CHILDREN: - Be... - Inspiring.
- Be... - Ambitious.
- Be... - Connected.
- Be... - Fair.
