Over 25,000 pupils took part in our Premier League Writing Stars poetry competition, submitting their poems on the theme: Beautifully Different, Wonderfully the same. Now their entries have been published in a limited edition Premier League Writing Stars book, unveiled at a launch event on 8th May.

The winners were presented with the book featuring their poems at the launch event, with Key Stage 2 national winner Maariya impressing the audience with a recital of her winning poem "An Ordinary Girl from Birmingham".

The book features the winning and highly commended poems from this year's competition and will be used in schools to encourage children with their creative writing. You can find out more about the competition winners at https://plprimarystars.com/news-and-events/pl-writing-stars-winners-2019

Jonathan Noblet, a teacher at one of the winning schools St Luke’s RC Primary School in Salford, was excited by how the competition had transformed attitudes to poetry at his schools, commenting:

"I always talk to the children about poetry as the language of the heart and to say what they feel," said Jonathan Noblet, a teacher at St Luke's RC Primary School in Salford.

"This competition has really helped them to think about themselves, self-development, think about the wider world and create some wonderful work.

"There is a group of boys who don't really engage with writing. This has really helped them understand it with respect to their favourite footballers, that diversity is really important and working together can create great things."
