Stars back Premier League Writing Stars with their own original poetry

By Premier League Primary Stars · Tue 17 October 2017

Celebrities and football stars have been inspiring pupils and teachers to get involved with Premier League Writing Stars by penning their own original poetry.

Premier League Writing Stars is a competition for pupils aged 5 to 11 across England and Wales, which asks them to write a poem on the theme of resilience, inspired by the poem Try, Try Again.

The competition is the perfect way to immerse your pupils in the world of poetry. It is supported by downloadable curriculum-linked resources.

Here are some of our favourite celebrity poems to get your pupils' creative juices flowing!

Good Morning Britain's Ben Shephard kicked things off...

Premier League Primary Stars advocate and maths whizz Rachel Riley declared she "daren’t give up".

BBC broadcaster Dan Walker got involved with his own effort.

Arsenal right-back Alex Scott said, "if I can do it, so can you".

Match of the Day's Alan Shearer contributed his own tale of adversity and hard work...

Dan Freedman, author of the Jamie Johnson series of children's books, gave us this poetic masterclass…

…while the entire Swansea team got stuck in with this inspiring group effort.

And Premier League Writing Stars competition judge Yannick Bolasie said: "Work hard and make the right decision, keep cool and calm, you're involved in the Premier League's writing competition!"
