This pack helps pupils develop the skill of throwing a pass. Throwing from the hand is a key skill in many sports, especially invasion games such as handball, netball and water polo. Different forms of passing are used in other invasion games, such as hockey (using a stick) or football (using feet).

Warm-up: Quick one-two

This is a fast-paced introduction to throwing skills for all pupils, in which they explore a variety of throwing techniques with different partners. 'Quick one-two' is a great way to prepare mind and body for the activities that follow.

Skill development: Move it down

'Move it down' gives pupils a chance to develop their skill at a variety of throwing techniques. The game uses rolling, chest passes, bounce passes and shoulder passes. It is played as a team, without opponents.

'One-to-five score' is a fast-paced and competitive team game, that allows pupils to put their throwing, aiming and catching skills into practice. Watch this film to see an example of it in action.

This game for small teams gives pupils a chance to use all the new passing techniques they have learned. Success relies on picking the most appropriate pass at a given time. This high-scoring game is fast-paced and fun.

As they cool down, pupils pass back and forth not only the ball, but also their ideas about what they have learned.

This is a quick and fun activity that will help develop your passing skills with your hands. You can play it on your own or with a friend.
